InGen Carnivore Profile:

Sinraptor

Name Meaning: China Robber

Nickname:  Sin

Timeline: Late Jurassic (160 mya)

Diet: Carnivore

Family: Avetheropoda, Allosauroidea, Metriacanthosauridae, Metriacanthosaurinae

Length: 25 feet long

Height: 9.8 feet tall

Weight: 1 ton

Range: Isla Matanceros

Description

Although smaller than most of the giant theropods on Matanceros, Sinraptor is not to be underestimated as a hunter. As a lightweight, this mid sized carnivore can move with enough speed to outpace and run down certain types of prey in a chase.

Habitat

Sinraptor can be found wandering and hunting on the wide open grasslands during the daytime and slumbering in the nearby forests during the nighttime. During times of live prey scarcity, it will also travel off to the beaches in search of a free meal. In other cases, Sinraptor has been seen going down to watering holes where herbivores gather to drink.

Behavior

Sinraptor is seen as being very ferocious and aggressive. Though largely solitary most of the time, pairs and trios have been seen hunting together on minor occasions. Males are seen to be more dangerous in the mating season when fueled by testosterone while females only become vicious when protecting their young from threats and will attack any carnivore of any size.

Though Sinraptor does not eat humans, females will attack those that get too close to their nests.

Hunting

Sinraptor is one of the fastest theropods in the wild of Matanceros, relying on speed and agility to chase after their intended prey and using it's claws and teeth to bring it down with force.

Sinraptor largely prefers hunting small to medium prey on the grasslands where it thrives. Ornithomimosaurs are the most commonly taken prey, with frequent targets being Struthiomimus, Ornithomimus, Harpymimus, Archaeornithomimus, Sinornithomimus, Dromiceiomimus and Gallimimus. Other dinosaurs that are occasionally taken by Sinraptor on the grasslands include Dryosaurus, Thescelosaurus, Valdosaurus, Hypsilophodon, Rhabdodon, Tenontosaurus, Ouranosaurus, Camptosaurus, Fukuisaurus, Bactrosaurus and Brachylophosaurus.

Groups of Sinraptor will seek out and hunt tougher prey like Arrhinoceratops, Pentaceratops, Torosaurus, Stegosaurus, Wuerhosaurus and Tuojiangosaurus, along with bigger prey like Iguanodon, Lambeosaurus and Corythosaurus, followed by juvenile sauropods.

Interspecific Competition

Despite occasionally visiting watering holes and beaches for food, Sinraptor stays exclusively on the grasslands where it occupies the role as top predator of that specific location, though this doesn't mean competition isn't inevitable.

According to some recorded sightings by observers, the most known predator competition of Sinraptor is the mid-sized dromaeosaur, Achillobator (Note: I replaced Dakotaraptor with Achillobator because I felt it would fit better). Though it is not as common on the grasslands as Sinraptor, Achillobator has sometimes been seen hunting the same prey in the area, which brings the two predators into frequent competition. Achillobator however would try to avoid direct conflict with Sinraptor by hunting down Dryosaurus, Thescelosaurus and Rhabdodon. However, Achillobator is shown to pose a threat to young Sinraptor and will even approach nests to get at the offspring. While a single Achillobator would be no match for an adult Sinraptor, packs are often seen mobbing them at kills.

Aside from these encounters, the greatest threat to Sinraptor is the island's apex predator, Carcharodontosaurus. While mostly a predator of larger prey items, Carcharodontosaurus is more than willing to steal the kills of any Sinraptor it crosses paths with. It will even mercilessly kill Sinraptors that dare to fight back if opportunity knocks.

Though rarely observed, sightings of Sinraptor competing with Megalosaurus for carrion on beaches have been reported. Similar encounters with Gorgosaurus are also known to occur.
It certainly wasn't all that easy for me to come up with the words for this dinosaur. The two times I ever saw this theropod in the media were in that Dinosaur Revolution series where it was inaccurately shown hunting Shunosaurus since the two dinosaurs never ever coexisted. The second time was in Planet Dinosaur where a juvenile was shown hunting the smaller theropod Epidexipteryx twice, and manages to kill one in the second hunt.

But enough about that. Next up will be the ever famous theropod who made it big in the media department, Velociraptor. I won't be pulling any punches with this one, I'll be going all out to explain about this theropod.

Be on the look out.

Piatnitzkysaurus

Name Meaning: Piatnitzky Lizard
Nickname: Piat
Timeline: Middle Jurassic (166-164 mya)
Diet: Carnivore
Family:  Megalosauroidea, Piatnitzkysauridae
Length: 14 feet long
Height: 7 feet tall
Weight: 990 lbs
Range: Isla Muerta
Description
Compared to it's more bigger and bloodthirsty cousin Megalosaurus, Piatnitzkysaurus is surprising not as deadly as it appears. It hunts during the day and sleeps during the night. Unlike most of Muerta's theropods, Piatnitzkysaurus is rather docile, but will attack if provoked, particularly when they have young with them.
Habitat
Piatnitzkysaurus make their homes and nests in the mountains around the valleys where they hunt. During the night, they sleep within communal mountain caves to provide shelter for their offspring.
But occasionally, packs can be found wandering around beaches searching for carcasses.

Carnotaurus

Name Meaning:
Meat Eating Bull
Nickname: Carno
Timeline: Late Cretaceous (72-69.9 mya)
Diet: Carnivore
Family: Abelisauroidea, Abelisauria, Abelisauridae, Brachyrostra, Carnotaurini
Length: 30 feet long
Height: 13 feet tall
Weight: 1.35 metric tons
Range: Isla Sorna, Isla Pena
Description
While it's arms may be tiny and useless for grabbing prey, Carnotaurus is by no means a wimp. With it's lightweight build and powerful legs, this carnivore can run fast enough to outpace even a ornithomimid. This makes it a successful predator of prey animals that even Tyrannosaurus couldn't catch.
Habitat
Carnotaurs on Sorna more preferably make their homes in woodlands that are close to the grasslands while the Pena based Carnotaurs frequent the shrublands, steppes and wide open forests near areas where water is plentiful.
Behavior
Carnotaurus are seen to be inc

Dilophosaurus

Name Meaning: Double Crested Lizard
Nickname: Dilo
Timeline:  Early Jurassic (193 mya)
Diet: Carnivore
Family: Neotheropoda, Dilophosauridae
Length: 20 feet long
Height: 10 feet tall
Weight: 1 ton
Range: Isla Sorna
Description
This primitive theropod is a sight for sore eyes, recognizable mainly by the two crests on it's head. Unlike the previous Dilophosaurs who possessed frills and the ability to spit venom, the more accurate Dilophosaurus wetherilli is an astonishing dinosaur. Although smaller than big predators like T.rex, Dilophosaurus is not one to be taken lightly, especially by scientists and observers. It's small size and lightweight make it a full fledged hunter that can actively pursue it's prey.
Habitat
Dilophosaurus lives in the island's Northern savanna, where it thrives as one of the more abundant predators. It coexists alongside Monolophosauru

Allosaurus

Name Meaning: Different Lizard
Nickname: Allo
Timeline: Late Jurassic (155-150 mya)
Diet: Carnivore
Family: Allosauridae, Allosauroidea, Carnosauria, Avetheropoda
Length: 28 to 32 feet long, with 39 foot specimens being rare
Height: 14 feet tall
Weight: 2.3 tons
Range: Isla Sorna, Isla Tacano
Description

Second only to Tyrannosaurus as one of the most commonly seen theropod predators, Allosaurus is truly a predator to behold. It is also the only known large theropod predator that has more than one species active on Isla Sorna, with three species in total, though they each live in diverse regions on the island. The common species, Allosaurus fragilis lives in the North. The smaller A.europaeus thrives in the West while the bigger A.lucasi occupies the East. On Isla Tacano, A.europaeus and A.lucasi are sometimes shown to be sympatric. Despite being large p
